Laser Spine Institute FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions about Laser Spine Institute

When faced with the idea of surgery, it’s only natural that a person would have many questions. Here are a few of the most common questions that many people have when considering surgery at Laser Spine Institute.

Am I a good candidate for a Laser Spine Procedure?

Fill out the form on the right or call the number listed. The helpful staff can answer any questions and get you started on the approval process. You will usually be asked when your last MRI was and to send/fax the results to them. Soon after that, you will receive a call to let you know if Laser Spine Institute is right for you.

Are there any limitations after my Laser Spine procedure and will I miss a great deal of work?

It is recommended that you not lift anything over 10-15 pounds during the first 6 weeks so that your body can heal. Depending on the type of work you do, you may be able to return to work as early as a week later.

What type of arrangements do I need to make?

A patient coordinator will help assist you in making arrangements. However, after your procedure, you will not be able to drive and will need someone to accompany you home. In addition, be sure to bring any medicines you are currently taking.

I live out of state – will I have to return to Laser Spine Institute after my procedure for a follow-up appointment?

No, because the laser spine procedure is minimally invasive, there is no need to return to the Laser Spine Institute location. Rather, you will be able to simply call and talk to a nurse or medical assistant. Because our procedures are minimally invasive, recovery time has been reduced to a matter of days.

Is there any risk associated with laser spine procedures?

The risks of complications with our procedures are generally very low. The surgeries only require a very small incision making them minimally invasive so it is rare that patients experience post operative infection at the incision site. In addition, Laser Spine Institute does not use general anesthesia, which can be a high risk.

Previously open back surgery failed; will Laser Spine Institute be able to help?

Interestingly, a high percentage of our patients have had previous back surgeries. We can repair the majority of spinal conditions and remove hardware and scar tissue from previous surgeries.

Will I need to wear a neck collar after having cervical surgery?

It is recommended for those having a cervical procedure to wear a cervical collar when traveling (in a car or plane) or to provide support for a week after procedure.
